The alarm goes off. I reach over and hit snooze. The alarm goes off again. With eyes still closed, I turn off alarm. I open my eyes and look at the ceiling. Our ceiling reveals time and temperature. We have this projection alarm clock in our room and as my eyes open the time and temperature hover over me in big red numerals. This morning the ceiling revealed 4:30am and the temperature was 29 degrees.
The very first thought that usually pops into my head is, "F it, I am not getting up."
I say to myself, don't think, don't think, don't think.
I kiss Kate and roll off the bed to my feet. Angel, our Labrador, always gets up with me. I take her outside so she can "tee tee." And as long as I am out there I tee tee too (great to be a guy). We come back in the warmth of the house and I have a cup of coffee. Angel helps me in the kitchen as I make myself whatever small breakfast I am eating before my run.
The first cup of coffee gets my thinking in order and I put on my running apperal. I'm out the door by 5am and off to meet the other brave runners.
We meet wherever the run is starting from and the run begins.
The run is over and I am ALWAYS glad I've been up and got a good run in.
So here is my point. DON'T THINK!!!
That is my strategy for early morning runs. My head almost always tells me don't go and I am always glad I did. So, I ignore the voice in my head and after a few years of early morning runs it still remains. And I will keep ignoring it. I will keep my morning mantra of "don't think, don't think, don't think."
This morning: 10 miles with friends and good conversation. It's a great day!

OMG! the fact you and your dog "tee tee" together outside is beyond hysterical. LOL! outstanding.
good point on not thinking.
I guess we can designate Larry as today's wuss, whatev on the back issue.
It's official then, Larry is the Wuss of the day.
sweet!
Ahem...Katie dear, are you meeting others for runs that I'm not aware of.
Dee- I'm so sorry I thought you knew. I'm totally co-dependent. I can't do this run thing on my own.Yes, I run with the Wed am crew that meets at bs.
It's ok Katie...I know I'm the new kid on the block...is there a special code/sign to be included with the Wed. am group.
non at all. we meet at 5:30am at barton springs. Wiley and his peeps started it last training season and 'we' (Julia, Brenda, Mike, Jon & Me) joined this go 'round since I can't get miles in on my own;-(
Ken- Dee and I are known to hijack peoples blogs and talk to one another...just so ya know!
Sorry Ken...it's not like we don't have our own blogs to communicate with, but it is always fun doing it this way.
My Blog has been taken hostage and I am waiting for the ransom call.
What up, FOOLS???
OMG! She's alive...
Hey Fool, not that I'm qualified to use the term...
